About National Workshop

The Advanced Physics Laboratory at the Department of Physics, Savitribai Phule Pune University is a hub for cutting-edge research in various areas of experimental physics. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and facilities to support advanced scientific investigations, particularly in the field of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) and other renewable energy technologies. Apart from that work energy storage technologies such as supercapacitors are carried out.
The laboratory is led by Dr. Habib M. Pathan, whose research interests include solar cells and nanomaterials.

Research Focus

The lab primarily focuses on Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs), an emerging photovoltaic technology known for its cost-effectiveness, flexibility, and potential for sustainable energy generation. The research includes:

  • Optimization of DSSC Efficiency – Exploring novel dyes, semiconductors, and electrolytes to enhance performance.
  • Material Development – Synthesis and characterization of new dye molecules, photoanodes, and redox electrolytes.
  • Device Fabrication & Testing – Designing DSSC prototypes and evaluating their photovoltaic properties.
  • Stability & Durability Studies – Investigating long-term performance and degradation mechanisms.

Facilities & Equipment

The laboratory is equipped with advanced instrumentation for:

  • Thin Film Deposition – Spin coating, doctor-blade techniques for film preparation.
  • Spectroscopic Characterization – UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy for dye and material analysis.
  • Electrochemical Studies – Cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy for charge transport analysis.
  • Solar Simulator & IV Measurement – Testing DSSC performance under simulated sunlight conditions.

Collaborations & Applications

The lab collaborates with academic institutions and industries working on renewable energy solutions. The research has potential applications in low-cost solar energy harvesting, portable power sources, and next-generation photovoltaic devices.
