Introduction
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is one of the greatest kings and warriors in India. He fought the mighty enemies and founded ‘Hindavi Swarajya’ in parts of Maharashtra. He coronated himself on 6th June 1674 at the Raigad fort, this changed the course of history and instilled confidence in the people across India to fight the oppressive rulers. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life and mission have inspired many generations of Indians till date and definitely it stimulates the sense of togetherness with a goaled vision. Such an history stands a bacon to be considered as the birth of Indian Nationalism. On the 350th anniversary year of the coronation ceremony, it will be treasured to document the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj across different regions in India from multiple perspectives. This multilingual and multidisciplinary national conference aims to highlight the ‘Relevance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 21st Century’
Significance of the conference
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is always considered to have a visionary approach towards maritime expansion, management, ability to lead demonstrated through the numerous forts he built that still stand proudly today. Such an approach calls for a detailed in-depth study of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s work and its significance in all fields of life. Hence the purpose of this conference is to map and evaluate long lasting imprint and significance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life and work across India in different regions and sectors. He was not simply a grand warrior, military strategist and builder of mode rn Indian navy. He provided the values of nationalism, welfare state, modern democracy and much more to all the subsequent generations in India. Memories of his valor and ‘Swaraj’ was a guiding force in the national freedom struggle. We believe that the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj should be studied and presented before the world through interdisciplinary approach. This conference is a humble effort to reflect upon his contribution in history, politics, public administration, social reforms, military and naval strategy, economy, revival of Indian languages, etc
About Conference
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was founder of the ‘Hindavi Swarajya’, which was later expanded as the Maratha empire. His coronation ceremony is considered as an epoch making and transformative event in the Indian history. To commemorate this in 350th anniversary year of ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Coronation’ – Department of Defense and Strategic Studies and Department of Communication and Journalism, Savitribai Phule Pune University along with Chhatrapati Shivaji Chair in SPPU and Bharat Itihas Sanshodhak Mandal propose to organize a multilingual, multi-disciplinary national conference on Tuesday, 30 August and Wednesday, 31 August 2024 in Pune, Maharashtra.
Relevance for organizing the conference
Savitribai Phule Pune University has earlier organized a national conference on the history of Marathas on the occasion of 300th anniversary year of the coronation ceremony on 7th to 9th November 1974. Fifty years after it will be fruitful to revisit the impact of this epoch-making event on India
Conference approach
The conference would encourage a multilingual and multi-disciplinary approach reflecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s contribution in different sectors and regions of India. As such the researchers may present their paper in English, Hindi or Marathi. If possible, research papers from other Indian languages may also be accepted. We look forward to insightful and meaningful reflections across all the regions of India.
Proposed Venue
SPPU Campus – Saint Dnyaneshwar Hall and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hall for opening and valedictory programs or another suitable halls within the University campus. The conference shall have paper presentation running as parallel sessions considering the vast scope of theme selection.

This multilingual and multidisciplinary national conference aims to highlight the ‘Relevance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 21st Century’.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj a gigantic figure in the Indian history whose legacy continues to inspire and resonate millions of individuals even today. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation on the 6th June 1674 at the Raigad fort, marked not only the establishment of the Maratha Empire but also the dawn of a new era. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s relentless pursuit of freedom, resilience, valor and dignity extends far beyond the annals of history.
Through this conference we aim to explore the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by multidisciplinary lens, discovering his contribution in history, politics, public administration, social reforms, military and naval strategy, economy, revival of Indian languages, etc. Hence the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj should be studied and presented before the world through interdisciplinary approach that would draw inspiration and insight.

Abstract format
Abstract can be submitted in English, Hindi or Marathi (any one language). The abstract document should capture the title of the proposed paper, authorship, abstract and at least five relevant keywords. The abstract should be within 250-350 words max. (excluding the author(s) details). Format the abstract in double space in TIMES NEW ROMAN, 12 pts. Every person can submit only one paper, either authored or co-authored.

Review Process
The submitted abstract will undergo double-peer review process. Editors will review for originality and standards. The abstracts deemed appropriate for the National conference title and aim will be sent to external reviewers, while the unsuitable ones are rejected.
