Department of Microbiology
The Department of Microbiology, University of Pune was established in 1977. It is now widely recognized as Centre of Excellence in Microbiology both with respect to teaching and research. The Department presently runs three academic programmes, namely M. Sc. (Credit Course), M. Sc. (Part Paper Part Research) and the Doctoral programme.
In the wake of the New Education Policy 2020, the department continues to maintain its mission to advance the cause of higher education and create a centre of Academic Excellence in the field of education and research in Microbiology.
Centre for Molecular Diagnostics and Research
The Centre for Molecular Diagnostics and Research was set up with a goal to provide a dedicated BSL2+/ BSL3 facility to strengthen research in the area of infectious and non-infectious diseases of importance to public health, agriculture and environment. The CMDR began as a COVID testing centre that ran on a volunteer basis during the pandemic. The centre is well equipped with advanced instrumentation to facilitate the translation of the research ideas into practical applications.
