About Us
The Department of Zoology is a Centre of Advanced Study (CAS) in Zoology recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and offers up-to-date and pertinent post-graduation programme (M.Sc., M. Phil. and Ph.D.) as per choice-based credit system. The Department has received funds from UGC and DST under various schemes. The Department has served as an incubation centre for establishing M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Bioinformatics Centre, National Centre for Cell Sciences (NCCS), Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology (IBB), which are now independent institutions. The faculty members have been actively engaged in research and have received research grants from funding agencies such as UGC, CSIR, DRDO, ISRO, DBT, DST, DAE, SPARC and ICMR in addition to International joint collaborative (Indo-Iranian and Indo-Israel) and industry sponsored projects. The department has also conducted five short-term specialized courses under the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) programme sponsored by MHRD Government of India, meant for elevating India's scientific and technological capacity to global excellence by inviting scientists around the world and encouraging their engagement with the faculty and students of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
